The Level 3 books introduce the 'magic e' for spelling words with the long vowels, (as in make, like, bone and tune) to give a new challenge to young readers.
These readers should be used at the beginning of the second year of learning to read with Jolly Phonics, after Level 2.
The new third level (green) also contains some alternative spellings of the digraphs.
